DEFECTS OF THE TEETH, JAWS, AND MOUTH: Many patients are missing certain teeth because the teeth never developed. Others have poorly developed tooth structure throughout the mouth. Also, many adult cleft lip and palate patients have missing teeth in the area of the cleft, and may require specialized care in the replacement of these teeth. Although most cleft palates are now successfully closed surgically, there are patients who require an obturator to close the defect. Dr. Ismail possesses the skills necessary to fabricate the obturator, thus improving the patient’s ability to swallow and speak. Additionally, patients may present with defects in the jaws or face as a result of accidents or cancer surgery. Again, these patients need specialized care for the fabrication of artificial replacements for the defects in order to improve appearance and function for these patients.
